US President Donald Trump has once again taken a tough stance on the ongoing violence in Nigeria. He has warned that if the killings of Christians in the African country do not stop, then America is ready to carry out airstrikes there. It is noteworthy that Trump has blamed radical Islamist elements for this, who are carrying out this mass murder.
In a conversation with the media, President Donald Trump claimed that Christianity in Nigeria is facing an ‘existential threat’. I have instructed the War Department to be ready for possible rapid military action. Christians are being killed in record numbers in Nigeria. They are killing Christians in very large numbers. We will not let that happen.
Earlier, Trump had warned the Nigerian government by posting on his social media platform ‘Truth’. He wrote, ‘If the killings of Christians in Nigeria continue, the United States will immediately stop all aid to Nigeria. The military will be sent to completely eliminate the Islamic terrorists who are committing these horrific atrocities. I am instructing my War Department to be prepared for possible action. If we attack, it will be terrible.’
The Nigerian government, in an official response to this matter, has said that it would welcome American help in fighting the terrorists.
According to reports, the history of religious conflict in Nigeria dates back to the 1050s. However, since 2009, groups like Boko Haram and Fulani herdsmen have been targeted by radical Islamic elements. More than 45,000 people have lost their lives and thousands of churches have been destroyed in anti-Christian violence since 2009.
