The wedding of a 74-year-old groom and 24-year-old bride in Indonesia is currently in the news on social media and local media. In this unique wedding, it is being claimed that the elderly groom gave his bride a ‘bride price’ (dowry) of about 1.8 crores. This wedding has become a topic of discussion due to the 50-year age difference between the two. The wedding took place on October 1 in the Pacitan Regency of East Java, where the groom’s name is Tarman and the bride’s name is Shela Arica. During the wedding, Tarman publicly announced that he would give a dowry of three billion Indonesian rupiah.
According to local media reports, guests were given around Rs 100,000 in cash instead of traditional gifts at this grand wedding. Initially, it was said that the dowry would be one billion rupees, but during the wedding, it was suddenly increased to three billion rupees. However, after the program, the wedding photography team alleged that the couple disappeared without paying and did not contact each other. Some online reports have claimed that the elderly groom fled with the bride’s family’s motorcycle.
The police have started an investigation after the photography company complained. Questions are also being raised on social media about the actual amount of the dowry and the authenticity of the check.
As the controversy escalated, the groom Tharman issued a statement on social media. He said that I have not left my wife, we are still together. The three billion rupee dowry is genuine and is backed by Bank Center Asia. The bride’s family has also clarified that the couple did not elope but went on a honeymoon.
