US President Donald Trump has threatened to impose a 200% tariff on China. Trump said, ‘If China does not supply enough magnets to the US, heavy tariffs can be imposed on their imports.’
Trump told reporters in the Oval Office that he wants better relations with China but trade tensions remain. He said that Washington’s position in the trade dispute is stronger than before.
Trump said, ‘China has some cards. We have some cards too, but I don’t want to play that card. If I do that, China will be ruined. I will not play that card.’ Trump made these comments during a meeting with South Korean President Lee Jae-myung. Trump further said that he had recently spoken with Chinese President Xi Jinping and was considering visiting Beijing. He said, “At some point, maybe this year or sometime after that, I may go to China.” He also said that Xi Jinping had invited him.
