Taliban attack Pakistan after reconciliation meeting fails, 7 soldiers including captain killed

Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has launched a major attack on the Pakistan Army in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. 7 soldiers including a captain-rank officer have been killed in this attack. The deceased officer has been identified as Captain Noman. The media wing of the Pakistan Army, ISPR, said that the militants targeted the security forces’ convoy with an IED explosion. At least 17 security personnel have been injured in this attack. The attack came after the reconciliation meeting between Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban in Istanbul failed.

The TTP fired on the army convoy when it was passing through the Kurram tribal area bordering Afghanistan. An IED exploded near Dogar during the encounter. The ISPR said that the army retaliated in which seven terrorists were killed. Security forces have cordoned off the area and launched a search operation.

According to information received, the attack was probably carried out by the TTP’s Kurram district commander Ahmed Kazim. Kazim, popularly known as the TTP Field Marshal, has a reward of Rs 10 crore. He is accused of killing at least 100 Pakistani security personnel. The attack was carried out after eight TTP terrorists were killed and five others were injured in an operation by the Pakistani army in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa last week.

Pakistani areas bordering Afghanistan have seen an increase in extremist violence in recent days amid the Pakistan army’s conflict and tensions with the Afghan Taliban. According to a report published last week, 298 people have been killed in terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa so far this year. The report said that 117 soldiers and 181 civilians were killed in various terrorist incidents till October 22. On the other hand, another 486 people were injured in terrorist violence. TTP is held responsible for these attacks.
