On the second day of the ongoing Delhi Test match against West Indies, Team India captain Shubman Gill has created a record by scoring a century. Gill has become the third Indian captain to score the most 50-plus scores in 12 innings as captain in Tests. With this century by Gill, Virat Kohli’s record has been broken. Kohli had scored 50-plus runs a total of five times in 12 innings as captain. While Gill has achieved the feat of scoring 50-plus runs as captain six times.
Gill completed his 10th Test century by scoring three runs on the fifth ball of the 130th over in India’s first innings. Shubman scored his century in 176 balls with the help of 13 fours and one six. Along with this, he has also become the third Indian player to score more than 50 runs in 12 innings as captain.
Gill is also the highest run-scoring batsman for India in the World Test Championship. He has scored the most centuries, 10. Shubman Gill is the top Indian player in the World Test Championship with 10 centuries. Rohit Sharma is second with nine centuries, while Yashasvi Jaiswal is third with 7 centuries. Moreover, Gill has also managed to score centuries in five Tests this year as captain. Gill has equaled Virat Kohli in scoring the most Test centuries as captain in a year. Virat Kohli scored five centuries in Test matches in 2018. Kohli also scored five centuries in 2017 and four centuries in 2016, making him the player to score the most Test centuries for Team India in a year.
Gill has also broken Don Bradman’s record by scoring the fastest five Test centuries as captain. Don Bradman scored the fastest five Test centuries as captain in 13 innings. While Shubman has scored more than five Test centuries in just 12 innings. Gill has also become the third captain in this global list. Alastair Cook has scored five centuries in nine innings, Sunil Gavaskar in 10 innings and Shubman Gill in 12 innings. Don Bradman scored five centuries as captain in 13 innings and Steve Smith in 14 innings.
