Shreyas Iyer out of ICU : return to India may be delayed

A major update has come out regarding Indian batsman Shreyas Iyer, who was injured during the ODI series against Australia. The 30-year-old Iyer’s health is gradually improving and his condition now seems stable and he has been released from the ICU. The team doctor appointed by the BCCI has been monitoring the cricketer’s condition for 3 consecutive days.

The incident took place on October 25 during the third and final ODI match against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), when Iyer dived in an attempt to take a catch from Alex Carey in the cover area and then got injured. After the injury, he was immediately shifted to the hospital for treatment.

The BCCI issued a statement on October 27 saying that Shreyas Iyer has suffered an injury to the lower part of his left rib. He has been admitted to the hospital for further examination. Scans have revealed that he has suffered an injury to his spleen. According to reports, he suffered internal bleeding due to the injury, but he is now out of danger. BCCI-appointed team Dr. Rizwan Khan has been monitoring his condition continuously for the last 3 days.

The BCCI medical team is monitoring Iyer’s injury status by constantly talking to experts in Sydney and India. Iyer’s family will leave for Sydney from Mumbai as soon as the visa process is completed. At present, the team management, his family and personal staff do not want to call him back to India in a hurry. It is expected that he will remain in the Sydney hospital until he fully recovers.

Iyer’s next possible assignment is the three-match ODI series against South Africa starting from November 30. Whether he will be fit by that series will be monitored. Meanwhile, the Indian team has reached Canberra for the five-match T20I series against Australia, the first match of which will be played on October 29.
