Protests erupt in Pakistan against Sharif for supporting Trump’s Gaza peace plan

  • Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaqdar distanced himself from Sharif’s statement, rebels said Sharif’s statements are completely contradictory to Pakistan’s basic stance

Immediately after the White House presented President Donald Trump’s 20-point peace plan regarding the Gaza Strip, Shahbaz Sharif praised Trump’s leadership and said that Islamabad supports his two-state solution. Along with this, he also praised Trump’s peace efforts. Due to this, a fire of rebellion has broken out against Sharif in the entire Pakistan.

Rebels say that these statements of Sharif are completely contradictory to Pakistan’s basic policy regarding Palestine.

Let alone the people of Pakistan, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaqdar has also distanced himself from Sharif’s statement. On the other hand, the rebels have directly told him that they (the statements) are not our statements.

After Shahbaz Sharif’s praise of Trump, Prime Minister Sharif started getting trolled on social media within a few minutes. He said in a single tweet that this is tantamount to giving formal recognition to Israel.

Another user said that Palestine cannot be betrayed. Our country cannot say that. Therefore, we consider Prime Minister Sharif’s support for Trump’s so-called peace plan completely unacceptable. Another asked: Israel will keep its army there even after killing 70,000 civilians. So how can Gaza be called demilitarized? We, Prime Minister Sharif, clearly oppose Trump’s so-called Gaza peace plan.

Dissociating himself from Trump’s peace plan, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said that we did not formulate that peace plan. There are many things in it that need attention. In fact, the first priority should be given to establishing a ceasefire there. Humanitarian aid should be provided immediately. And forced displacement should be stopped.

Ishaq Dar said that this announcement by Trump is tantamount to giving formal acceptance to the (Israeli) occupation. One user wrote that peace without justice remains empty. Thus, Sharif is being hit hard.
