The governor said, ‘No one will bear this pain alone. Emergency, security and health services saved many lives.’ The Sonora Red Cross sent 40 of its employees and 10 ambulances to the relief and rescue work.
The cause of the explosion is currently under investigation. Media reports have suggested that the fire was caused by a short circuit. Officials said an electrical transformer installed inside the store could be the likely cause of the accident. The city’s fire chief said that an investigation is underway to determine whether there was an actual explosion or just a fire.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum expressed her deepest condolences to the families of the deceased in a post on Facebook. She contacted the governor of Sonora. She ordered an immediate investigation and directed the interior secretary to provide assistance to the families of the injured.
