Landslide in the mountainous areas of Papua New Guinea : many houses buried, 30 people died

A horrific landslide occurred in the mountainous areas of Papua New Guinea late on Thursday (October 30). According to Australian media reports, details have emerged that 30 people have died in the incident, while many houses have been buried.

Australian media quoted police as saying that a landslide occurred at around 2 am late at night, in which many houses have been destroyed in the village of Kukas in Enga province. Enga province Governor Peter Ipatas said that according to local people, about 30 people have died, of which 18 bodies have been found.

Many houses in many villages have been completely destroyed due to the landslide. Relief and rescue workers are working to evacuate people from here. Many bodies have been pulled out. Locals are helping relief and rescue workers in retrieving bodies buried in the landslide. Police have confirmed 21 deaths so far. In May last year, a landslide also occurred in Enga, in which 670 villagers lost their lives.
