- Modi is a balanced and wise person, India will not bow to America over buying crude from Russia: President Putin
Taking a dig at Trump over the double 25% tariff imposed on India for not buying crude from Russia, Russian President Putin heaped praise on Narendra Modi, saying, ‘Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is a ‘balanced and wise’ person and will not be pressured by Trump’s attitude.’
While participating in the open session of the ‘Valdai Discernment Club’ in Sousse, he said, ‘India’s decision to buy oil (from Russia) has been taken purely from economic perspectives. It has nothing to do with politics. If India does not buy oil from us, it is likely to suffer a lot of losses. Estimates of that loss also vary. Some say that India could lose 8 to 10 billion dollars due to this. If it continues to buy oil, it is likely to suffer losses due to ‘tariffs’. So why not buy oil? Moreover, India has ‘special’ relations with Russia, and if it stops buying oil, on the one hand it is likely to suffer economic losses, and on the other hand it will have to pay a ‘political price’ across the country. So why not follow the first option (of buying oil)?’ He also told President Putin at that conference.
It is worth mentioning that Russia is angry with Trump’s decision to provide modern weapons to Ukraine.
