UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has announced stricter immigration rules. Under which now legal immigrants living in the UK will have to wait for 10 years instead of 5 to get citizenship. A person will be eligible to get citizenship only after living in the UK for 10 years. Due to the government’s decision, the number of people getting such citizenship in the UK from outside countries will be drastically reduced.
Not only this, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has posted on ‘X’ and wrote, ‘If you want to live in the UK, you must know the English language. Therefore, we are also tightening the English language proficiency in immigration.’
It is worth noting that the UK government will soon present a comprehensive immigration white paper in Parliament. In the coming time, the rules for work visas, student visas and family visas will also be tightened.
