Emmy-nominated actress has been hired as Effie Trinket in the upcoming Lionsgate movie. The film adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ best-selling book, directed by Francis Lawrence, will be released in theaters on November 20, 2026.
Effie is the stylist for Joseph Zada’s character, Haymitch Abernathy, in the film as he gets ready for the 50th Hunger Games. In the first four movies in the series, which began with The Hunger Games, which debuted in theaters in 2012, Elizabeth Banks played an older Effie. Zada, Whitney Peak, Mckenna Grace, Jesse Plemons, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Maya Hawke, Lili Taylor, and Ben Wang are among the previously revealed cast members. The recent announcements that Molly McCann and Iona Bell will play notable book characters Louella and Lou Lou, respectively, and that Ralph Fiennes has been cast as the evil President Snow are examples of THR’s exclusive reporting.
“One question rang out among readers worldwide as soon as Suzanne published the book: Who will portray Effie?” says Erin Westerman, co-president of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group. Who could pay tribute to Elizabeth Banks’ legacy while transporting us back to Effie’s earliest, most influential years? There was only one solution for us. The career of Elle Fanning has been extraordinary. She exudes a unique presence that is warm, dazzling, and rich in layers of depth. From the beginning, she was the clear choice of the fans, and we are grateful that she took the call. As it happens, the odds were on our side.
